Optimal Strategies for Predicting and Consolidating PICOs: One Best Method or a Blended Approach?
Tuesday, 11 November | 17:00 – 18:00
Moderator: Pamela Vo, Vice President, HEOR, EVERSANA, Basel, Switzerland
Speakers: Niklas Hedberg, MSc Sweden’s Dental and Pharmaceuticals Benefits Agency (TLV); Zsombor Zrubka, MBA, PhD, MD, Óbuda University, Budapest, Hungary; Michael Happich, DrPH, PhD, Eli Lilly, Bad Homburg, GermanyDuring this session, panelists will discuss:
- The complexity of defining PICOs (Population, Intervention, Comparator, Outcome) for EU Joint Clinical Assessment (JCA), due to input from all 27 Member States and the resulting volume of literature.
- The challenge of predicting and consolidating PICOs that reflect both shared and local priorities across the EU.
- Exploration of alternative approaches to streamline PICO development:
- Country surveys for national specificity.
- AI-driven PICO prediction using retrospective HTA and clinical data.
- Traditional SLRs (systematic literature reviews) as a foundational but resource-intensive method.
- Debate over whether a single optimal method or a blended, tailored approach is most effective for PICO development.
- The goal to make evidence gathering more efficient, reduce duplication, and support coordinated decision-making in the evolving EU HTA framework.
