Disrupting the Life Sciences Commercial Model: EVERSANA Joins Insightful Conference Sessions on AI & Patient-Centric Models

Industry Thought Leaders Shape Wharton Conference

On September 26, 2025, thought leaders from EVERSANA and across the healthcare, technology and life sciences industries gathered at The Wharton School in Philadelphia to participate in an exclusive scenario planning workshop – “Disrupting the Life Sciences Commercial Model: Exploring the Future Impact of AI and Patient-Centric Healthcare.” The event highlighted the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and patient-centric models.

Rethinking Commercial Models: Opportunities & Challenges

A session called, “Setting the Stage I: Opportunities and Challenges in Life Sciences Commercial Models”, explored the powerful forces reshaping the life sciences industry. AI is rapidly advancing drug discovery, with 60-100 assets already in clinical trials, while commercial operations lag behind. The session emphasized that while Research and Development (R&D) has embraced AI, commercial teams are only just beginning to realize its potential – often limited to modest efficiency gains from Copilot-type tools. To truly disrupt the industry, organizations must move toward agentic and autonomous AI platforms, reimagining workflows and business models from the ground up. Yet, making this leap requires more than vision – it demands a clear strategy for overcoming the practical barriers that stand in the way of meaningful change.

How can organizations begin to break through those barriers? Successful AI implementation requires more than just advanced technology – it depends on having the right data, developing clear business cases, ensuring regulatory compliance and maintaining robust security practices. Organizations are encouraged to focus on early use cases where data is available, experiment with rapid prototyping and leverage partnerships with technology leaders like AWS to accelerate innovation. It’s also important for companies to prioritize responsible AI adoption by balancing optimism with caution, especially regarding data privacy and regulatory requirements. By tackling these challenges and fostering a culture of experimentation, life sciences organizations can unlock the full potential of AI to transform commercial models and improve patient outcomes.

AI & Direct-to-Patient Models: Transforming Patient Experience

A panel called, “AI and DTP Impact on Life Sciences Business and Operating Models,” delved into the evolving expectations of patients – now increasingly seen as healthcare consumers. Technology adoption, telehealth normalization and demographic shifts are driving demand for more accessible, efficient and personalized care. Panelists discussed how partnerships between life sciences organizations, tech giants like Amazon and digital health companies are streamlining patient access and reducing friction in care delivery.

AI’s role is pivotal: from interpreting complex biomarker data to enabling real-time insurance verification and price transparency, AI is paving the way for more streamlined, tailored healthcare. Amazon Pharmacy’s use of AI for digital prescription processing, for example, has increased order speed by up to 90%, freeing pharmacists to focus on patient care. The panel also highlighted the importance of balancing technological innovation with human empathy, suggesting that roles like nursing may become even more essential as AI enhances clinical decision-making.

Looking ahead, the greatest disruptions may come from consumerization, outcome-based approaches and evolving distribution channels. Success will depend on aligning around shared goals, embracing test-and-learn strategies and ensuring that innovation simplifies – rather than complicates – the patient journey.
