Interpretation of the Europe Regulatory Framework and Best Practices for MI Across the Pharma Industry

Navigating the European regulatory landscape for Medical Information (MI) is no easy feat. Recent research reveals that MI teams across pharma companies—large and small—face a patchwork of requirements and best practices, from consent handling and call recording to language support and patient access. Most organizations rely on contact center service providers and strive to cover the five most common European languages, but approaches to written and verbal responses, signature requirements, and privacy policies vary widely. This diversity highlights the urgent need for industry-wide standards and validates the collaborative work of groups like MILE, PIPA, AMIFE, phactMI, MAPS, and PVN-MI, who are driving alignment and best practices across the sector.

The study, conducted by EVERSANA in partnership with MILE, surveyed MI professionals to uncover how teams interpret and implement regulations in real-world settings. Results show that while most companies provide both verbal and written responses to patients, policies around consent, call recording, and personal data redaction differ significantly. With limited region-wide guidance and fragmented national rules, MI professionals are calling for greater consistency to ensure safe, compliant, and timely information for healthcare providers and patients.
